So all you are left with is your other hand to operate the device. And that too, a device that you have no option but to wear on one hand. A tiny sub-2 inch display of a smartwatch can be quite limiting. The focus of the double tap feature is pretty much wanting to do more with less. Although the feature has a little bit of a learning curve, once you get a hang of it, it is so hard to go back to using the watch the old way. With the gesture, users can answer or decline calls, play or pause music, open widgets, and more. ![]() For the ones who don’t know, Apple introduced the new feature to the Watch Series 9 in the first week of November, which allows users to control their smartwatch by just tapping (twice in rapid succession, as the name of the feature suggests) their index finger (or any other finger) and thumb together. It is truly amusing that just with a tap of two fingers you can control your watch. Quoting my review once again, with the new hand gesture, the Watch Series 9 really brings “new tricks up your wrists”. Instead, in the Watch 9 what amazes you totally is the double tap feature. They aren’t things that make you go “whoa”. However, these improvements, while great, are kind of updates that we expect from generation to generation. The battery truly is impressive on this one. This time is usually enough to bring the battery back to full and last AT LEAST another day. The point of me sharing so much of my daily schedule is that with all of this running, I only charge the watch every other day, and that too for small windows of time when I am in the shower or when I take it off for about 20-30 minutes to give my wrist a break. Then through the day I get notifications, the music app running in the background and at night, sleep and other trackers are always on. I also connect my AirPods to the watch and listen to music while I do about 15-20 min of cardio. Then by 6 am, I have the workout app running on the Watch for at least 90 minutes. I wake up at 5 am everyday, and on nights I don’t sleep with my watch on, the first thing I do when I wake up is put the Apple Watch on my wrist. I am one of those who have a 5 to 9 schedule before their 9 to 5. I use it all day, and usually all night as well. The Apple Watch is now an appendage to my existence. Like I said in my review, the Watch Series 9 has fantastic battery backup. The Apple Watch Series 9 battery can REALLY last. But once I got used to it, and now, after a couple of months of using the smartwatch, I can actually appreciate that change. ![]() ![]() While this was the first change I noticed on the watch, it somewhat irked me in the beginning because of the sudden rearrangement in the usual actions. Dragging up the screen now opens the stacked widgets, and dragging down still shows your notifications. The action button on the right in the Watch 9 now opens the control panel instead of the main menu, and clicking the crown now opens the main menu and also works for going back to the watch face. First, the actions assigned to the buttons on Series 8 were remapped with the Series 9.
